About Dwight “Doc” Gooden
One of the most electrifying pitchers of his generation, Dwight “Doc” Gooden was the 1984 National League Rookie of the Year and the 1985 NL Cy Young Award winner. A four-time All-Star and three-time World Series champion, he anchored the 1986 World Champion New York Mets, who mark the 40th anniversary of that title this season. He recorded 2,293 strikeouts over his major-league career, and his No. 16 has been retired by the club.
